Reflections
What a joy it was to honor Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts and Tiger Cub Scouts and their leaders – pat and present. There were about 40 past and present scouts and leaders in our worship service. Today, February 8, is the 100th birthday of the scouting movement. Happy Birthday, Scouts!
Something to think about —
In her book,
Contagious Joy, Barbara Johnson writes: “So much of the time our prayers are only pleas for help. God welcomes those needy prayers, but just as any parent gets tired of hearing, ‘Please, please, please!’ so does God. And of course we know to thank God for all the blessings he has bestowed on us. He likes to hear words of gratitude as well. But the thing most of us probably forget to do is simply to praise God – to say, ‘Yea, God!’ now and then to cheer him on and let him know we admire him and respect him.
“After all, God made us in his image, and since we like to hear applause, that must mean he does, too! When’s the last time you prayed simply to praise God?”

Sunday, February 14: Breathing With God
Luke 9: 28-36; II Corinthians 3: 12 – 18; Exodus 34: 29-35
The disciples had been stunned by this experience of the transfiguration. It took them some time to recover from the shock of what they had experienced and catch their breath. However, for us, the end of the story is different. We know what it means to breathe with God. We’ve had time to get used to the fact that Jesus is Lord. We are beginning to understand the significance of his suffering, death and resurrection. Take a deep breath – “Are you breathing with God?”
Blessings for your week,
