Opportunities for Service and Worship

For as in one body we have many members, and not all the
members have the same function, so we, who are many,
are one body in Christ, and individually we are members
one of another. We have gifts that differ according to the
grace given us. (Romans 12:4-6a)

Acolytes
The responsibilities of the Acolytes are to light the Altar candles before the Worship service, give offering plates to the ushers, and put out the Altar candles after the Worship service. Training will be provided to those in 3rd grade or older that are interested in this service.

Altar Flowers
Members and friends of the congregation may purchase flowers to be placed on the Altar. Flowers may honor a celebration or be in remembrance of a loved one.

Choir
Choir members must be 9th grade or older. The choir provides music during the Worship service. They also provide music for funerals, holidays, and celebrations throughout the year. Practices are on Tuesday evenings.

Chime Choir
This Worship opportunity is open to anyone interested in learning to play the chimes. The chime choir provides music occasionally during the Worship services. Practices are on Monday evenings.

Coffee Hour
Coffee hour provides snacks and beverages for fellowship time after the Worship service. The church provides coffee, cups, and napkins.

Greeters
Greeters welcome people to the church. Greeting can be done by a family or individually. This is usually a monthly commitment. Greeters stand by the library and greet people as they enter.

Fellowship Groups
Youth Fellowship, United Methodist Women. These groups plan activities for the congregation throughout the year.

Liturgists
Liturgists take part in the worship service with the pastor. They read the Invocation or Call to Worship and two scripture readings. All of them are provided to the liturgist ahead of time.

Nursery
Nursery service is provided during the Worship service for children 2nd grade and younger. This service begins after the "Time Mostly for Children". Adult supervision is provided and the responsibilities are to watch the children and clean up the play room afterwards. Children can watch movies or play in any of the play rooms.

Sunday School
Sunday school is provided before Worship service, beginning at 9AM during the school year. It is open to all children 3 years to graduation. Adult Sunday school is also provided throughout the year.

Touch Letters
These letters are sent to those unable to attend church, those needing prayers, and/or congratulations.

Ushers
Ushers are those who pass out church bulletins in front of the sanctuary doors before Worship begins. Before the Worship service, ushers are also responsible to arrive at 9:55 to fold bulletins, put registration books in the pews, place bulletins at the pulpit, lectern, and piano, put fresh water at the pulpit and lectern, and assist visitors to available seating. During Worship, ushers should guide parents to the quiet room if needed, count everyone present, help with offering collection, collect registration books after offering, and open sanctuary doors during the last hymn. This opportunity is usually a monthly commitment.

Visitation Group
This service opportunity involves people of the congregation who visit with shut-ins, members who are hospitalized, or those who need a visitor to sit and spend time with them.

Sign-up sheets for some of these opportunities for worship are located outside the church doors on the bulletin board.

For more information about any of these opportunities for Worship, please see one of the following people: Pastor Andy, Ed or Louise Proctor.

Thank you for your service to Dundee United Methodist Church.
